Fall Research Projects

Neo-Tropical Migrant Bird Banding

This was another of our first projects.  Members assist with netting, banding , weighing, measuring and releasing migratory birds at Darby Marsh in Port Clinton, Ohio.  This closed marsh is part of the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge.

If you have a group that would like to visit, please contact Tom Kashmer by clicking here

(see Spring Research Projects page for pictures)

What is Bird Banding?

Monarch Tagging

Capture and tagging of Monarch Butterflies.  These butterflies then fly all the way to Mexico where the tagged insects are recovered.

See the  Monarch Watch Project for more info.

Volunteers with the Sandusky County Park District help catch the butterflies - An example of a monarch wearing one of the small white tags
