RAIL PROJECT
My targeted date for the start of the rail season is March 20th. I hope to have everything up and running by then. If you would like to “tag along” some morning to see how the operation works, I would appreciate the help. Just give me a call.
CREEK BEND FARM BANDING UPDATE
Last Fall I had a fantastic banding season at Creek Bend, capturing 1,030 birds. Because of that success, a friend of mine has volunteered to band there this spring. Tom Dorobek, a licensed bird bander, will begin the project in mid-April and continue through May. Tom is working on a schedule, probably banding 5 days a week, and I will get the dates to you as soon as I have them. I won’t be able to help because of the rail project so Tom could really use some help. Tom's number is 419-332-2201...tell him you're interested in helping and he will give the info you need. Thanks.
FISH RESEARCH
I'm going to expand the current research project at Mud Creek this season. Besides running traps at the Creek Bend Farm location, there will also be traps placed farther downstream. The purpose is to determine if different fish species use the muddy bottom portion of the creek versus the rocky, gravely bottom at Creek Bend. I have received permission from a landowner near SR 19 to place traps. The plan is to begin in March once the stream returns to normal levels.
